Have you ever asked yourself or someone else how they define Self- Care? It is amazing how many different definitions we can have for the same word.
Simply put, SELF-CARE is the action steps we take to care for oneself. Growing up Self-Care meant having food on the table, a roof over our heads, clean clothes, and toilet paper. We often ran out of toilet paper, thought Ragu marinara sauce combined with a brick of Mozzarella Cheese, and a loaf of bread was FINE dining. Little did we know it was the cheapest meal my mom could afford and some days we had it more than once in a week. She made it more about time together than quality of food. We were not the children who had the newest styles all the time or the trendy haircuts etc. Grandma took us 2 times a year for clothes and our Aunt cut our hair when she could. Mom worked her hardest to raise us and give us the best she could, and she DID! She taught us to make sure our basic needs were met even were hers were not.
I still remember the day my friend showed me that Self Care meant so much more. We had been meeting virtually each day and working out together.
